Kirkfield: In the City of Kawartha Lakes

Town CriersThe village of Kirkfield is situated on historic Portage Road (Highway 48) at the junction of Kirkfield Road (City of Kawartha Lakes #6).  In the later 1800's and early 1900's Kirkfield was a thriving village with numerous businesses serving the local community and many that served the burgeoning Canadian economy. It became known nationally as the home of Sir William Mackenzie of Canadian Northern Railway fame.

Today Kirkfield has become a regional service centre for the City of Kawartha Lakes, new businesses are beginning to emerge and there is now a lot more to Kirkfield than its glorious past.

The Kirkfield Lift Lock is one of the region's most interesting sightseeing destinations.

The Kirkfield Lift-lock is located about 2 km. north of the village. This relic of the early Canadian industrial age is well worth a visit. On a summer weekend it is a hub of activity with many visitors watching the many large and small boats traveling up and down the Trent Canal system.

Return often because there is always something new in the old village of Kirkfield
